The Borovets resort complex is the oldest and largest Bulgarian mountain resort. It is on the northern slopes of the Rila mountain, in the foothills of the tallest peak on the Balkan Peninsula Musala 2925 m. The distance between Sofia and Borovets is 65 km, a one-hour drive along a picturesque canyon above the river Iskar. Downtown Borovets is 1340 m above sea level, and the highest ski-tracks and facilities are at 2300 m.
